The Union of Investment Companies (UIC), through its training arm—the Investment Studies Center (ISC), organized a program titled "Data Analysis" focused on data analysis relevant to the investment and financial sectors. The program was held from 05th to 06th November 2024, at UIC premises.
On this occasion, Ms. Fadwa Darwish, UIC Secretary-General, stated that data analysis has become a vital element in supporting strategic decision-making within organizations. It directly contributes to guiding these organizations toward achieving their goals efficiently and effectively. Precise data analysis enables business leaders to understand market trends and dynamics, helping them make informed, clear decisions. With the development of modern analysis tools like Excel and Power BI, the importance of utilizing data for policy formulation, performance enhancement, and gaining deep insights has grown, which in turn supports institutional success and drives sustainable growth.
This program aimed to develop participants' skills in transforming data into accurate insights that support high-level organizational performance. By equipping participants with modern analytical tools, they gain the ability to derive valuable insights that contribute to achieving institutional goals and delivering outstanding performance aligned with the evolving market demands.
The program began by introducing data analysis principles, covering the basics and how to apply them to support business functions. It offered a comprehensive view of the data analyst's role, equipping participants with a deep understanding of how analysis contributes to organizational success.
The next phase focused on using Excel as a primary data analysis tool, where participants trained on fundamental data analysis techniques and advanced formulas, including data manipulation functions and statistical functions for accurate data interpretation. This section also included pivot tables, charts, conditional formatting, and interactive charts to highlight patterns and trends, enabling organizations to quickly and easily analyze results and make precise, data-driven decisions.
Participants also learned about Power BI’s capabilities as a robust tool for creating interactive visualizations and effective reports. They were introduced to Power BI components, including Power Query for data import, cleansing, and preparation, as well as visualization building and data relationship creation. Training also covered dynamic dashboard design and publishing via Power BI, simplifying analytics sharing and monitoring for organizations.
The program concluded with intensive applications on creating advanced visualizations and using custom measures in Power BI, along with setting up "What-If Parameters" for future scenario forecasting and implementing creative designs that enhance data clarity and appeal.
Ms. Fadwa Darwish concluded by reaffirming the Union’s commitment to supporting the skill development of professionals in the investment and financial sectors, thereby enhancing their capacity for strategic decision-making that boosts organizational efficiency and advances sustainable economic development toward new horizons of success.
